WEEK #13 - Colorado Springs Fountain Stake

Hey everyone!! There's big news this week!! I got a call from the mission president Thursday night and he said, "I would like to extend the invitation for you to take the position of training a new missionary this coming transfer!" He said that he felt that I was well prepared enough to begin training someone else even though I would be just barely ending my own training:) although humbled, of course I said yes. This has happened only one other time under President Rehm and that was with Elder Gutierrez last transfer, so it was pretty unlikely and a surprise to me. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I will definitely need to rely on the Lord's strength and guidance more and more through prayer.

Halloween Ready

Monday we had a good basketball filled p-day and then had a lesson with Mitch that night. Mitch expressed that he wanted to have some of his friends over for dinner and explain to them the decision he was making by getting baptized. So he is no longer getting baptized on the 24th, but soon afterwards:).
Tuesday we met up with the Sand Creek Elders and I'm celebration of Elder Dugger's birthday, we went to that Brazilian restaurant Tucanos. The sirloin steak and the garlic Parmesan beef were both my favorite. That night, we taught the Colburn family, who are active, and had a lesson on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the end of the lesson, their boy went and put on one of those horse masks and contorted his body into his shirt and came running around the corner and jumped on the couch, making us all laugh. Before we left, they have us some elk and deer jerky to taste:) mmmmmm.

At the Colburn family's house

Wednesday we visited Brother Whitmer, who is a less active member and has a hard time retaining what we teach him. So we taught him about the Gospel of Jesus Christ in simple terms to make it easier to remember and encouraged him to come to church and partake in the ordinance of the sacrament. We had a couple more active member lessons today too. The reason that we teach the active members is to fill those nights that we don't have other appointments on with productive things. In the Fall/Winter seasons, the sun goes down a lot earlier than in the summer and we aren't allowed to be out walking around after dark. So during this time, we try to set up as many lessons as possible. For dinner, we had delicious Elk stew! I have had a lot of meals with elk in on my mission so far, but I'm not complaining.

Today we took Elder Villaneda to the mission home for his interview with President Rehm. Then, on our way back, we went to Rizutos ice cream shop where you can get an ice cream cone that is a foot and a half tall for only $1.50! Later that day, we went to teach a recent convert and we brought along our investigator Mitch to help teach. It still amazes me how much he acts and thinks like a member of the church and still hasn't taken that step to covenant with The Lord by being baptized. Soon though. We had dinner that night and the family had invited some other missionaries, Elder Zundel and Elder Rogers over to eat as well, it was good to have them over and help us in our lesson. Following dinner, we went over to teach little John Taylor with Brother Munn. We made it fun and taught them the hand signals for the 10 commandments. Then that night was the night I got the phone call from President Rehm about training. I didn't get much sleep that night that's for sure.

Pikes Peak is now white!

Friday, we had a good district meeting and had a good lesson on respect. That night, we had a lesson with the Choate family who had just moved into the ward. They have been less active for years and have 4 unbaptized children out of their 7 children! When we met with the mother, she said that she really wants to start coming back to church and she wants to get her unbaptized children baptized after we teach them! So we got a couple of new investigators from that and it looks like they will be getting baptized soon as well!
Saturday we found out that an apartment inspection was going to be happening sometime soon so we deep cleaned the whole apartment. Sweeping.. vacuuming.. dusting.. I even scrubbed the blinds to the windows:) but now the apartment looks great and clean.

Sunday we were blessed with seeing a ton of less active members come to sacrament meeting!! Usually we might get like 3 to come, but we had 10 of them show up! And on top of that, one less active brought 2 nonmembers with him and we also had a person who is no longer part of the church come and attend out of the blue:) I am so grateful for the little blessings that The Lord gives each of us every day:)
Love and miss you all!
