WEEK #79 - Pueblo Zone

WEEK #79
1.30.17

Hey everyone! This week has been a solid week:)
On Monday, we spent our Pday playing ping pong and scatter ball. Elder Perrins is pretty good at ping pong! For dinner, we went over to the Avery's again and had steaks haha. They are so awesome. Afterwards, we stopped by a less active family, the Carters, and had a great lesson there. They really want to be more active and feel the peace of the gospel.
On Tuesday, we stared off by having a good lesson over at sister Ford's. She is in her 80s and is a great member of the church, but she said that she had never read the Book of Mormon! So we started reading from the beginning with her and will help her through it. Then we went over to the Cluff's and had a lesson with the family there. Their dog just had a bunch of puppies so we got to play with a bunch of baby boxers. That evening, we went over to the Dougherty's for dinner and it was great. We shared a lesson on the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them and it went smoothly! Again I am grateful for Elder Perrins and his preparation. Afterwards, we went over to the Cooks and talked about their nonmember friends that they want to share the gospel with. They are waiting for the right timing, but are so ready and willing to be member missionaries.
On Wednesday, we met at the stake center for a worldwide missionary broadcast! They reviewed what was taught at the broadcast last year and then made changes to the missionary schedule! So now we are able to get more sleep with an optional earlier bedtime, we schedule in when we do our studies, and we have 2 extra hours of Pday to take care of what we need to get done. They also changed the statistics that we report and now we only report 4 of them. They called them the Key Key Indicators. After the broadcast, we went and had a lesson with Vanessa! She was so excited to meet with us and the lesson went great. We met at the church and brought Sister Avery with us. She accepted the message of the Restoration very well and said that she would be baptized! We are excited to be working with her. Then we went and made another puzzle at the nursing home with the tenants. When we got back, we went to dinner with the Morgans. They are awesome and super funny. Then we went too the Coombs and had a great lesson about the Temple.
On Thursday, we tried to wash our car before zone conference, but it was too cold and the water just kept freezing on the car. So we did our best at getting the ice off before we went to the conference. Zone conference was great and we learned a lot! I really like what sister Rehm talked about. She basically said "Don't hold a conversation with Satan" we can do this in many different ways. Lingering on our past mistakes is holding a conversation with Satan. Reading negative material is holding a conversation with Satan. Even though we may be able to end the conversation, it is better to not start it. I also got to see Elder Stark and Elder Lloyd and that was awesome:) After the conference, we went and gave a blessing to Sister Carter and then had dinner at the Armstrong's. We then went and had some more lessons with people we haven't met. They are all cool families!
On Friday, we had a good district meeting and then came home and cleaned up our room haha. Then we went over to the Thomson's again and got to have a good lesson on the plan of salvation there. Then we met with Socorro and Asa and Zach again and talked about Repentance. That was a great lesson. We broke out the old bikes and started biking around everywhere. We had dinner at Village Inn and then came home and did our studies.
On Saturday, we had a training call in the morning and then got on our bikes and biked around everywhere. We went and saw Dee and the grand kids and had a quick lesson on faith. Then we bike to Chili's because a member was going to take us to lunch there. When we came back out, Elder Perrins had gotten a flat tire and so we had to walk the 2 miles back home.

We came back and went to help out with the barn again. We talked to the nonmember, Alex,  working on the barn with us and he said that he would be willing to have the missionary lessons! That was super great. We went to dinner at Cracker Barrel with the Cash's and then had our coordination meeting with Brother Martin.

on Sunday, we had ward council early in the morning and then had a good time at church. Sister Cook had us come in to her class and teach for a couple of minutes on teaching with the Spirit. There was a nonmember in the class named Autumn, who came with one of her friends. She is 12 years old and is totally interested in the church. She said that she wanted to take the missionary lessons so right after church, we went over to the friend's house and had our first lesson! She accepted the invitation to be baptized too! Things are really rolling along here. We were able to fix Elder Perrins's bike and then we had dinner at the Martellaro's where we had a great time playing this dice game called Zonk.
It has been a great week and we are seeing so many of the Lord's prepared people progress! Thanks for all the emails and stuff! Love you all!

WEEK #78 - Pueblo Zone

WEEK #78

This week was pretty fun! We have had some cool experiences.
On Monday, we didn't email because of MLK day. We played ping pong for a little bit at the YMCA and then went to the church and played scatter ball with a lot of missionaries. The floor to the gym in that building is carpet so we got some good carpet burns on our knees and legs. This one Elder got hit in the face like 3 different times and it was super funny haha. Afterwards, we had dinner at the Avery's. They are the greatest people. Brother Avery was just re-baptized and is such a missionary minded member:). We came home after that and rested our sore bodies

.
On Tuesday, we emailed in the morning and then set out to meet more people. We met sister Brown and had a good lesson there. Then we went and saw Francis and Josephine. We had a lesson on the Plan of Salvation and they got hung up on the spirit world. The lesson went better but we still feel like there is only slight progression.
We then had dinner at the Landreth's. She is the Relief Society President and he is not a member of the church! There is a lot of that here in Pueblo West though, I haven't met so many people that are married to nonmembers. It is really cool seeing how it all works between the two. We then went to the Orcutt's who are a cool family that we hope to start teaching more regularly. Their hobby is souping up little RC cars and racing them. Brother Orcutt said he has a car that can go over 80mph. Pretty crazy. Then we went and met the Allisons. They have been struggling with their activity since they had their newborn baby. It was good to meet and talk with them though.
On Wednesday, we saw sister Snyder in the morning and taught about the Book of Mormon being the Keystone of our Religion. Later, we went to the Nursing Home and put another puzzle together and then played a card game. After that we finally got to meet some people that the sisters had been working with. Socorro and her son Zach  are recent converts of a couple months ago:) and then Asa is Socorro's boyfriend. He is an excommunicated member who is getting ready and making the changes he needs to in order to be re-baptized. We had dinner with sister Cash, she got us some pizza and that was nice. Then we went and stopped by the Burns home. They were home and let us in! Both of the parents work on Sundays so it is difficult for them to make it to church. But we had a good talk about family and about church with them. I think it really helped the parents and the kids.

On Thursday, we did our weekly planning and then went to the apartment complex and went to finish knocking the last building. We got a couple doors in and then these ladies told us to leave because we were soliciting. (We aren't solicitors). Then we met Linda Ford and set up a lesson. She wants to go through the Book of Mormon with us. We went and met the Spears! He is a counselor in the bishopric. Dinner was with the Dougherty's and it is always fun being over there. They have an autistic brother who is hillarious haha his name is Jeremy. He was showing us how fast he can clap his hands and I have literally seen nobody that can clap that fast ever. So funny.

On Friday, we had a good district meeting. I taught about setting goals in faith. It was a good lesson and I committed everyone to meet the standards of excellence that the mission has for us. Then we all went over to Brother Nanto's where he made the district some fried rice for lunch. It was great:) We went and saw Tori again and gave her a Book of Mormon. Then we stopped by this family that has been struggling with coming to church and were able to go in and meet them! The Thomsons are awesome they want us to keep coming over so that they can get back to church. We then met this older man who let us in but told us that he had fallen away from the church. It was sad to see him in a state where his testimony is lost. We had a good talk but it was sad. We had dinner with the Coombs and that was awesome. They are just wonderful converts to the church! Afterwards, we went to the Sawyers and met all 8 of them haha. We had a good lesson about the Atonement.

On Saturday, we went and stopped by potential investigators in the morning. We met Vanessa again and she was so happy to see us! She told us that she was wanting to find a better spiritual connection with God and a church to go to! She didn't have time to meet right then but we exchanged information and she texted us after that again saying that she was happy that we were persistent in trying to contact her. Elder Perrins and I met her the first full day that we were here in the area. So that was awesome. We went out to the Dougherty's again and helped them work on the barn that they are building. We had dinner with the Martellaro's at village inn and I tried their chicken and waffles. It wasn't bad! We then met with brother Martin and had our correlation meeting.
On Sunday, we had a Priesthood Executive Committee meeting before church. We were asked to give talks in church as well! So again, I cheated a little bit and used my talk from seminary graduation haha. It was good! None of our investigators made it to church but we are working on that. After church, there was a man there that had come up to me and said that he was from Whitehorse, UT after I had said I was from Monticello. He said that he was up here at the hospital with his girlfriend who was from Eastland! (Basically Monticello). So we went to the hospital and I got to meet her. Her name is Shelly Schoop. She isn't a member but her cousin in Bev McDougall and we knew a ton of mutual people obviously haha. It was good to talk about Monticello and then about how Blanding sucks haha. After that we went to our first dinner (we accidentally scheduled two haha) it was great! We were at the Ashby's and got to meet their family. Our second dinner was at the Boyer's and they are awesome! Their little kids love the missionaries and it is so fun to be around them haha.  After that we went and had a good lesson with the Viehwegers.
It was a really great week! We are doing well and are starting to get things moving again!! Thank you to all who keep in contact. I love you all!

WEEK #77 - Pueblo Zone

Hey everyone! It has been a very tiring week but it's been good too.
On Monday, we went to the library to email and everything and then went to some stores afterwards to check things out. Pueblo is a pretty cool place. There's not much to do as far as sights and hikes and things like that but it's going well so far. We ended up going to  the stake center to go play spike ball with some missionaries. It was my first time playing spike ball and I was terrible. It's kind of like playing volleyball into a bouncy net on the ground. I then shot some hoops. It was a pretty good day. That evening we met the Avery's and they are awesome:) he is working on getting the priesthood and they are great :) we had a great dinner and a great lesson. We then went over to the Jim family. They are a Native American family and are working on becoming more active. We were able to meet the father and two of the kids.

On Tuesday, we had a pretty good morning. We went to an apartment complex and started tracting through the complex. We were able to find some people who were willing to have us come by at another time. For lunch, the Harrison's had us over and it was great to meet them. In the afternoon, we wet and saw Francis and Josephine and tried to teach the first lesson with them. We were able to teach most of the lesson but they didn't receive it too well. They kind of kept interjecting at random points and then going off on tangents. So we left that lesson a little frustrated but they still want us to come by. We then went over to the Ashton's and helped their autistic son practice his social skills by talking to him and sharing a message. After dinner, we were able to get in touch with a less active member and have a good lesson then we went and visited Brother Leech. He is a pretty quiet guy and we were able to talk to him for a while before we retired for the night.
On Wednesday, we had a good morning and then went to go and contact some people. We met some very interesting people and found a new less active lady who is in a pretty rough spot. It was pretty obvious that she had been smoking weed. Not only from the smell, but from the actual weed on the counter. She said that she wanted to try coming back to church. So hopefully we can help her turn her life around. We met this really nice guy named Norm and then headed out. We then went and did some service for a nursing home into Pueblo. It was fun! We put together a puzzle with some older guys and got to talk to them which was awesome. They are all pretty funny. We went back to the apartment complex and met some more crazy people. We met a man named Mike who told us that there were reptilians who were leading our church and that the moon wasn't real. Yeah we could see a jar of Marijuana on the table behind him. We then went and had dinner with the Cooks and that was fun. They are a super cool family with awesome kids. We finished up the evening by stopping by some more people and then heading in.
On Thursday, we did our weekly planning and then went out to Pueblo West to contact some people. No one was home so we went and found some new investigators in that apartment complex. For dinner we went to Cracker Barrel and it was awesome. It tasted just like a home cooked meal :) then we went and met with Sister Larson and took Brother Martin with us. Then we went and saw the Coombs and had a good lesson there as well. Elder Perrins is Doing really well and is just sliding right in to being a missionary :) it has been so fun being companions with him.
On Friday, we had zone training with all of the missionaries in the zone. It was really good! Elders Stewart and Garton did really well teaching. Afterwards, we went and had lessons with the Glovers, the Biggerstaffs and then stopped by more people that had said to come back. We ate dinner and then went to the Hansons. Brother Hanson is a recent convert of a couple months and the family is awesome. They are preparing to be sealed pretty soon.
On Saturday, we went out to Pueblo West to help people with a barn that they were building. We prepared the holes for the beams to go into. After that, they fed us lunch an then we went back and put together the bike that Elder Perrins got. Next, we went and stopped by Dee and finally met her 3 grandkids! That was awesome. They are 14, 12, and 8.
We now have 3 more people to teach! We then met with the Rooks after that. Then we got to see the McCarrol kids and that was good. We are working on having them becoming more active. We then met with Brother Martin for our coordination and he was telling us how grateful he is to have the elders back. Apparently he didn't get along the best with the sisters. For dinner, we went over to the Archuletas and they fed us some amazing fajitas on home made tortillas. I ate so much of those. They also brought out the kittens that their cat had just had and so we played with them for a little bit. Then we shared a message and headed home.
On Sunday we had ward council early in the morning and it was great to meet more people in the ward. We are still new to most of the ward and now we are getting better acquainted. Church was fast and testimony meeting and so Elder Perrins and I went up and introduced ourselves in front of everyone. After church I got to see former Elders Johnson, Reed, and Silva and Sister Carson!! They had all taken a trip down to Colorado to see people and we ran into them at church. It was so good to see them again haha. We went over to the Riplies to teach Michael a lesson about the priesthood. He is working on getting the priesthood. Then we went over to the Morgan's and got to know them a little better too. They are super cool and love the missionaries. Then we went over to the Jim's and met the second half of the family. We had dinner over at the Montellaro's for dinner and that was great! They are awesome and she had claimed the title of missionary mom. So she is mom to all the missionaries in the ward:) after that we met the Smiths, who are working on getting sealed together after they work out adopting one of the kids they have with them. There are so many awesome people in the Pueblo West 3rd ward and I am excited to be here!
Thanks for all the letters and hope that everyone is doing well!
Love, Elder LaRose.

WEEK #76 - Pueblo Zone, TRANSFERRED! TRAINING! DL!

WEEK #76
1.9.17

Hey Everyone! It has been such a crazy week
On Monday, we wrapped up the last day with Elder Stark and Elder Lloyd. We went out to Manitou Springs and explored this cave out there. It was pretty fun! The cave went back farther than we expected and there was graffiti all throughout the cave.

We came back and then met with President and Sister Rehm to talk about the new missionaries. Then, we went to the airport to pick them up! There were only two Elders and One sister who came out this round. We then took them to the mission home and ate dinner with them there. It was good to meet and talk with them and all of them seem like great missionaries. After dinner, Elder Stark, Elder Lloyd and i went over to Michael and Marly's to say goodbye. It has been so fun getting to know them both. I remember when Marly was investigating the church and Michael was deployed. Michael came home and was there for Marly's baptism and then started investigating himself. After a little bit, we started teaching him and then he was baptized! We went over and had hot chocolate and a good lesson. Then we just talked and had some good times:)

On Tuesday, it was transfer day. We took the new missionaries to the church and then I went and sat in some meetings because I am a trainer. After the meetings and lunch, we found out who we were going to be companions with! My new companion is Elder Perrins!

He is from Spokane, Washington and is super cool. I was so excited to have him as my companion:) He came out well prepared and we are going to do well flushing this area out. After the meeting, we headed down to the Pueblo West 3rd ward! So I thought that my GPS that I found in a missionary car worked but we found out that it didn't! So we were totally flying blind! We called the information line and got directions through the phone robot. We had dinner with Brother Nanto and got to meet him. He used to be the Ward Mission Leader and he welcomed us to the ward warmly. After dinner, we went and met with Bishop Klemm and the Ward Mission Leader Brother Martin. We got the good run down on all that was going on in the ward and they told us about some people that the sisters were working with. We came home and looked at what the sisters had done with the area book. Turns out that they had no investigators that they were working with. Which makes it a little hard to get started. But it will go alright. We live with a member family, the Cash family and they are really nice. We unpacked a little bit and then went to bed.
On Wednesday, we had a good first start to the day. We had a lesson with Sister Snyder, a less active member who is working on paying her tithing. We had a good introductory lesson and Elder Perrins is doing really well at picking up the pace:) We had then scheduled to go through the area book and figure out what we were doing in the area a little more, but after a couple of minutes of that, I felt like we were wasting time. Even though we were doing something good, I felt that we just needed to get out there and get down to missionary work.

So we selected a street that we would go tracting on. The first door that we knocked on let us in!!! Her name was Dee and she got us some hot chocolate and we were able to talk with her a little bit. She just adopted her grand kids out of a pretty abusive home and is trying to set up a better future for them. So we told her about what we do and then set another appointment with her to meet her grandkids as well! That was so awesome. We continued down that street and were able to talk to a couple of more people. Elder Perrins is doing great. He came well prepared and isn't afraid of talking to strangers. We came home and had lunch and then had set out to do some more finding. AGAIN, the first door we knocked on, we were able to teach a lesson and get a new investigator! It was so cool. We continued down that street and found some more potential investigators. Then we had dinner with the Cash's and that was great. We got to meet the Coombs, who are recent converts of about a year and are getting ready to go to the temple to get sealed! They are awesome:) We came back home after that and went to bed exhausted.
On Thursday, we woke up to tons of snow. It just kept coming down the whole day. Normally, the snow misses Pueblo but not this time. So we set out in the nasty weather and got down to business. Unfortunalely, some of our appointments cancelled. So we went out and did some more finding and AGAIN!! The first door we knocked on let us in and we now have two more new investigators to work with. Francis and Josephine are a really cool couple and are very strong in their own church. It will be great to work with them. For dinner, we treated ourselves to Applebee's courtesy of Nana and Papa:) It was delicious. We came home that evening and did our weekly planning when it was dark. They also make us park our vehicle due to the snow.
On Friday, we had a good district meeting. It was fun to meet the rest of the district too. I am over a district of 8 Elders. The instruction was good and I talked about being a missionary haha. For our activity, we got to know each other better by playing Never Have I Ever. After District meeting we got lunch and then headed out to actual Pueblo West. It is very spread out over there and there are nice homes and then there are sketchy homes haha. We were able to go out there and meet some interesting people. We had dinner at this one members house and they fed us Elk backstrip steaks. So. Good. They have a ton of kids from their family and also foster kids so it was a busy home. It was great to be over there. We met a couple more awesome families that night and then came in.
On Saturday, We had interviews with President Rehm and that was good. It is nice to see him and catch up. All of our afternoon appointments that day cancelled so We headed to the apartment complex again. We knocked on the first door and it was a less active member of the church who wants to be coming back again!! that was so cool. We had stake conference that night and that was awesome. Elder Costa of the Seventy came and spoke to us. It was really great to hear from him. He is from Venezuela. Afterwards, we went and had a great lesson with the Cook's. They are a super awesome family and are super pumped about doing missionary work.
On Sunday, we headed down into Pueblo for stake conference and it was awesome. After that, we met a ton more members of the ward. As we have been meeting more members in the ward, I have been getting more and more excited. They are all so awesome. We had dinner at the Martin's and it was great. We finished the night by having a lesson with Bishop and his wife. I am so excited to be here in the Pueblo West 3rd ward! It is going to be hard starting from scratch, but the Lord will help us. Thanks for all the support! Love you all so much:)

WEEK #75 - Colorado Springs Mission Office

WEEK #75
1.2.17

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! This week has been like my favorite week so far on my mission. ALSO!! I am getting transferred on Tuesday! I will be training a new missionary in a new area! We will be in Pueblo, CO in the Pueblo West 3rd Ward! Both me and the Greenie will be new to the area so we will have to start from scratch but that is going to be great!! I am really excited. My new address will be:
4 Colt Court
Pueblo West CO 81008
On Monday, We picked up Elder Lloyd!! He is going to be the one replacing me so we are having him be in a trio with us for a week for training. I was so excited to be companions again with Elder Lloyd. haha. So after we emailed our families, we got a call from some sister missionaries that had lost their keys and couldn't get into their truck. So we loaded up our stuff and and took the van out to Calhan which is about an hour away. It was a cool drive through the plains and we were able to get to the sisters. We gave them the key back and then noticed they had a flat tire! SO we changed that for them too. We then made the drive back into town and then went to Crave burger for dinner. We had these huge hamburgers that had grilled cheese sandwiches as the buns. It was a heart attack on a plate. We left super full.

On Tuesday, we spent the morning getting groceries and stuff like that because we had to go and rescue the sisters out in Calhan. The afternoon was full of good times in the trio and we were able to stop by a ton of people and get in contact with them. That night, we got to go over to Jesse and Diana's for dinner and they made us some great ham:) It was great to be there one last time before I leave. We have watched the both of them really grow.
On Wednesday, we had our transfer coordination meeting with all of the office missionaries and with President and Sister Rehm. It was great! We talked about the transfer and about the logistical things to do. Such as getting vehicles to the building and making sure people have keys. It was a good meeting and afterwards, we had a good lunch provided by the office missionaries. We had smoked ham and funeral potatoes. So good. We went and saw Anthony and Deborah and introduced them to Elder Lloyd. We had dinner at the Neilson's and had a good lesson on charity. It was a pretty good day:)
On Thursday, All three of us celebrated our 17 month mark together! So we decided to party hard haha. In the morning, we went to Kneaders for breakfast and had all you can eat French toast  It was so good! Probably the best French toast I’ve had.

After that, we did our studies and then headed out to do work. We stopped by Brother Powers and were able to see him outside. He is doing better and just had some medical procedures to help him with the pain that he is in. He said that he would be able to make it to church too. After that, we went and saw Ami! It had been a while since we had gone over to see her because she was having some problems with Joe. She had her baby with her, who had just gotten back from the NICU. We had a great lesson and I got to say my goodbyes. Ami is so ready to be baptized too. After that, we continued our 17 month celebration. We went to Burger King and I used a $15 gift card that I had got for Christmas to buy 90 Chicken nuggets for the 3 of us haha. When we ordered, the cashier said “That’s $15 spent right” haha.

After lunch, we were able to go and see Anthony again. We also ran into this crazy chick at an apartment complex that came up to us asking for a cigarette. We told her that we didn’t have any and then talked to her a little more. She was probably higher than the moon because she kept repeating things that she had said earlier and then would just start cracking up hysterically. Her laugh was contagious so we all started laughing too. She said that she would love to learn more about the church and so we gave her a card with the Sister’s phone number and then left the complex. We topped off our 17 month celebration by going to Chili’s and getting all you can eat soup and salad It was so dang good and we were packing our stomachs to the brim.

After dinner we went and saw the Fosters and it was great to be over there again I am going to miss them.
On Friday, we had our zone white elephant gift exchange! Elder Stark, Elder Lloyd and I all got princess water bottles and then shaped cardboard guns out of them as out white elephant gifts.

It was really great to be there with the zone and to be around so many people that I have seen grow. We had a great potluck lunch at the end to top it off. My white elephant gift was a box of Sour Patch Kids. After the zone meeting, all of the transfer stuff was finalized so we got to work on figuring out travel arrangements. It was Elder Lloyd’s first time so we made sure to give him the run down on the whole process and helped him work through it. For dinner, we went over to the Shumway’s and had a great time! The food was really good and after dinner, we played a couple of games with the family There was one called Exploding Kittens that they showed us and it was really fun haha!
On Saturday, we worked on the travel arrangements for a while. We were able to get it all figured out too! So we started typing up the document. That’s the part that takes a long time. We had dinner at the Richardson’s with the sisters and it was great! They told us all to bring our Ukulele’s and so we did. For our message, we all rapped about the 3rd lesson we teach called the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was super cool! After dinner, we headed back and worked a little more on travel arrangements. Because we had to get the arrangements done, we were up until the New Year! So at around 11:55 we went to the 3rd story of our apartment complex and then climbed onto the roof It was really awesome to be up there. We watched them shoot fireworks from off the top of Pikes Peak way in the distance. The three of us got a Martinelli apple cider bottle and opened it there on the roof and took swigs haha. It was pretty fun.

On Sunday, we had our normal morning schedule and then made it to church! There were a ton of people sick and so there were not a whole lot of people at church. But church was great and I bore my testimony. After church, we continued typing all of the document and then prepped drafts to send out. We had a great dinner with the Hammonds and then went to the Work of Salvation Fireside and that was so awesome. Jesse Howard was invited to speak at that and he did such a great job. He had everyone there laughing all the time. It was so cool to hear his conversion and a great way to end the night. I also got to see Mitch again and he is getting ready to go to the temple for his endowments!
What a great week. It was so great being with Elder Stark and Elder Lloyd and I am sad to be leaving them. Wish me luck in my new area and Happy New Year to everyone!
