WEEK #12 - Colorado Springs Fountain Stake

WEEK 12 - 10.19.15
Hey everyone! Just a mail update, if you send packages, don't send them to the mission office but to the address where I'm at right now :) letters can go to the mission office address.

Colorado in the Fall

Blue Spruce trees

So on Monday night, we got together with the Sand Creek missionaries to exchange. I went with Elder Villaneda to the Sand Creek area while Elder Dugger went with Elder Schilling.
On Tuesday morning, Elder Villaneda and I walked over to the park that is near their place and played some basketball. After our studies, we hopped on our bikes for about 15 minutes and then Elder Villaneda got a flat tire! So we walked the 1/4 mile to our appointment and were a little late. We taught Sister Ruz, who is an active member who lived with nonmember family. We taught the Restoration to her and focused on committing her to read the Book of Mormon so that when family and friends come to her with questions, she can provide the answers:) when we got out of the appointment, my tire had gone flat too!

Mine and Elder Villaneda's flat tires

So we both had to walk the bikes all the way back to the apartment. We then got a member to pick us up to go to our service appointment. His name is Ryan Call and he is 19 with a mission call to somewhere in Tennessee. We helped move around boxes for a disabled lady from her basement so she could go through her junk. Afterwards, Ryan took us back to his house because he heard that we had no dinner for the night. He had recently come back from Alaska and had brought home with him some fresh Salmon that he caught while up there. He gave us a bunch of packages and we were set!

 Alaskan Salmon!

Because out bikes were flat, we ended up walking around trying to visit as many people as we could. Nobody answered for the whole day! But we did have a little miracle story as we were walking home. We saw Sister Patty, who is an active member who struggles with smoking. As we walked by her house, she had just stepped out to have a smoke. Luckily, we interrupted her and began talking about the gospel. She told us that almost every time she steps outside to have a smoke, she will see either the missionaries walking by or one of her church friends:) I know that The Lord put us there at that moment to help Sister Patty with her smoking. We ended up teaching her a lesson and having a prayer with her and her husband on the front porch:) We made our way home and started to grill our salmon:) we did two different seasonings, one being a burger seasoning flavor and then a lemon pepper flavor. It was so dang good! The lemon pepper was especially great.

On Wednesday, Elder Villaneda and I went and played basketball again. After that, a member of the church who works at the bike shop came over and have us new thorn-resistant tires for free! Then Elder Schilling ad Elder Dugger came to switch back before we had our interviews with the mission president. During my interview, President Rehm and I talked about how I was doing and how the family was doing in Connecticut:) we discussed how my first few months have been and  how I am preparing for mission life ahead of me. After all of that, Elder Schilling and I had some free time so we went walking around trying to talk to people. I started to talk to this one guy who was cleaning out his car and what his belief in God was. He straightened up and said "I don't believe in God he way you guys do." So I persisted by asking who he believes God is. He turned to me and said plainly, "I am God." And then proceeded to give a philosophical explanation about how he can create and destroy and other nonsense. It was pretty funny. Our dinner took us to Golden Corral for dinner and it was actually my first time going there. I had always gone to Chuck-a-rama.
On Thursday, we drove up to northern Colorado Springs to Elder Schilling's follow up fractured pinky appointment. The doctor told him that he needs to start bending his finger and stretching it so that he won't lose his range of motion. Despite this increased range of motion, Elder Schilling still claims that he cannot do his dished because "the inability to use his pinky finger doesn't let him apply any pressure while washing" He can ride a bike totally fine, drive, and play volleyball, but nope... Can't do the dishes... So I do both of our dishes and pray for patience. It's not a very big deal, it's just annoying. Then went and saw Terry Brown, who is a less-active and lives in a super sketchy apartment complex where there is a lot of drug presence. We got into his apartment and he told us about his dream he had of the afterlife haha. It was pretty weird and crazy, but that fits how he is. Dinner was at the Munn and Fuller residence and they had their old Volkswagen bugs out and were working on them. He told me to get in and take a picture, and so I did:)

On Friday, we had a really fun District Meeting and then all went to Wendy's for lunch afterwards. We were going to take Mitch, our investigator, with us to teach a lesson to a recent convert but she ended up canceling on us last minute. We just taught Mitch instead:)
On Saturday, we got a call from Sand Creek again, needing us to drive them to the pharmacy for Elder Dugger to pick up some meds. When all that was done, Elder Schilling and I set out on foot. We walked to the library, where I printed off the talk: His Grace is Sufficient by Brad Wilcox to give to Mitch. We had a lesson with a less active member and she said she was coming to church, but didn't show up.

 I made energy balls!
On Sunday night, we went with Mitch to the stake center to watch a choral performance called From Cumorah's Hill. It was really well done and the music was great:) Mitch really enjoyed it too.
Well I hope everyone has a great week and I love you all!
