WEEK #27 - Castle Rock Zone

Hello everyone! It's been a pretty good week!

On Monday, we met with everyone and said bye to those who were getting transferred away. We played a little bit of basketball as well, which is always fun. That night, we had dinner with the family that houses us, the Kumpfs, and had some great pasta.
On Tuesday, it was transfer day, so we had to go and trade our truck for a car so that some sisters who were getting transferred could fit all of their luggage into a vehicle haha. So we drove around a Toyota Corolla for a little bit. We had to go to the computers to do some zone paperwork and then exchanged back our truck! Our zone will be gaining 3 new missionaries and we will have 5 districts in the zone. The new missionaries' names are, Elder Soller, Elder Sanders, and Elder Durfee.

That night we had dinner with the Pettingill family and they invited a less active member over to eat with us! His name is Ryan and we had a great and simple lesson on the Restoration of the Gospel. The spirit was definitely there and Ryan really enjoyed it. He liked how we went to the basics and testified of the eternal truth that is contained in our message. And I believe that it really comes down to the basics! It is the same with everything. If you want to get better at shooting your free throws, you don't practice your dunks. You sit at the line and practice your basic technique and rhythm over and over. If people want to know if this is the true church, they do the basics. They read the Book of Mormon, pray about it, and have the faith to act upon the answer that they receive from God.

It reminds me of the scripture in 2 Nephi 33: 10-12
10 And now, my beloved brethren, and also Jew, and all ye ends of the earth, hearken unto these words and believe in Christ; and if ye believe not in these words believe in Christ. And if ye shall believe in Christ ye will believe in these words, for they are the words of Christ, and he hath given them unto me; and they teach all men that they should do good.

11 And if they are not the words of Christ, judge ye--for Christ will show unto you, with power and great glory, that they are his words, at the last day; and you and I shall stand face to face before his bar; and ye shall know that I have been commanded of him to write these things, notwithstanding my weakness.

12 And I pray the Father in the name of Christ that many of us, if not all, may be saved in his kingdom at that great and last day.
I love how Nephi puts it so plainly. The Book of Mormon is absolutely the word of God and testifies with conviction of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It was a wonderful lesson and we felt really good about it.
On Wednesday, we went to the Spanish Elders' apartment to drive to service. However, as we were leaving a parking lot, Elder Taylor got into a minor accident that dented the side of one car and took the front license plate of his car. So we had to wait for the police and everything. We then went to service a little late and helped out at the Task Force thrift store. Our dinner backed out on us so we decided to got to Mod Pizza which was incredible. It's pretty much like subway for pizza where you get to customize your pizza and everything. So I customized mine to be a Pepe's version of garlic tomato basil and pesto:) it was delicious!
On Thursday, we did our weekly planning and had to get some more information from the members of the zone. Then we tracted around the apartment complex that is in our area. For dinner, we went out to Sedalia to have dinner with the Turnbaughs. They have the biggest house that I have been inside! It's huge! They have an indoor basketball court and spiral staircases as everything:) Brother Turnbaugh said that he used to live in Moab Utah as a kid and Sister Turnbaugh is from Payson Utah too! It was cool to talk with them about the small towns is Utah haha.
On Friday, I hit 6 months out and it scares me a little bit because I am not the missionary I want to be yet and a quarter of my mission has gone by. I just have to give it my best and it should be fine:) We went to our district meeting and had a good lesson on having no fear. Then we went to Costa Vida for lunch and went back home. We tried to stop by some less active members, but they wouldn't come to the door:/. After dinner, we went to help Brother Wolthius with his house! I got excited because this is the kind of work that I like to do. We are pretty much completely renovating the house. So we helped him with his trim and baseboards for that night.
On Saturday, we got to be a part of a youth wrestling tournament for service!! It was pretty dang awesome. I ran the table at one of the mats and kept the score of each match. Elder Mogle did the time. There were a couple of members there that were surprised to see us there and came up to us to chat:) it felt like I was back at home watching Mckayd and Keldon wrestle with dad yelling at them saying SHOOT THE HALF! We were there for most of the day, as wresting tournaments normally go and then headed to dinner. Afterwards we went back to the Wolthius house to put primer on all the walls before they paint it. We are going to start laying down the hard wood floor pretty soon.
On Sunday, we tried to visit a couple of less active members before church, but again, no answer. Church went really well and for the 3rd block, we learned about how to make the sabbath day more of a delight. After Church, we set out walking everywhere:) It started coming down pretty hard too! to we bundled up and walked for about 30 minutes to a less active that we were trying to get more information on.

Nothing happened there, and our dinner cancelled so we went over to the Snow's house and they ended up feeding us:) we walked to our other appointments in the blizzard and finally made it home to do call-ins. As a Zone Leader, we are over about 24 missionaries including 5 District Leaders. We meet often with the District Leaders to help them in their areas. So we talked to each of the District Leaders and got information on how they were doing and the members of their district were doing. After we do this with all of the District Leaders, we call the Assistants to the Mission President and tell them how our zone is doing. It is a lot of work!
Love you all and hope you have a great week:)
